ACPI-0352: *** Error: Looking up [Z00I] in namespace, AE_NOT_FOUND
search_node ffff81003f846e00 start_node ffff81003f846e00 return_node 0000000000000000
ACPI-0446: *** Warning: [AE_NOT_CONFIGURED]: Could not resolve operands, AE_NOT_FOUND
ACPI-1140: *** Error: Method execution failed [\_SB_.BAT1._BST] (Node ffff81003f846c80), AE_NOT_FOUND

Even if you could boot with no acpi, of course you would not have any acpi, which would suck on your laptop. Yo can give openSuse 10 Beta 1, I think it just came out, or will be shortly, but generally something lik that is more of a kernel defect and will happen across the board.

Arima(I am pretty sure they are the whitebox, but not 100%) isn't know for their linux friendly bioses, my m6805 had a special version (gentoo, mandrake, and others had a special emachines boot option) of the linux kernel just to get the thing to work for over a year until they released a new bios. Futhermore you probably will not get suspend to ram working anyway, another one of arima little quarks, the way the re-intialize ati videocards. Sorry, good luck. Oh I maybe wrong on all counts, they is no acounting for this stuff, but from my experience (since the redhat 8 days) this is what to except.

Are you by some chance running gkrellm. I and other have had issues with that. Never did find out why. Might want to see.

Acer designs and builds their own notebooks, from what I understand.

here's the link to some of the discussion http://www.notebookforums.com/showthread.php?p=858586#post858586 What I and MMarkin ended up doing was to uninstall it. There is some goofyness that it does. Well actually ACPI is what's weird. It kind of explains it there.
