Hi!

Anyone encountered bad experience when connecting to an external OTG casing with a 2.5in hard disk?

I've tried two different brands (GEMINI and ANYDATA Digimate) and the results are the same i.e. sometimes not enough power to drive the hard disk although I've connected both USB cables (fork type that comes with the casing) to the 8104 which incidentally was running on AC power.

From what I learnt from the shops I purchased from using USB transfers can sometimes give inconsistent results like sudden stoppage during the transferring process and the OTG hard disk could not detect the notebook, the power supplied on the LCD display on the casing fluctuating from minimum to the maximum, problem transferring large files say 5GB and above from the 8104 to the OTG hard disk etc

I hope its NOT due to the 8104.

Thanks :(

Hi iverson,

I thought all the USB ports should be designed to give the same current output?

Well, I'll try on the left side then

Thanks

Hi iverson,

You're absolutely right. I did a 3GB+ files transfer and it went smoothly without a hitch. I can see the status on the OTG casing LCD screen that although the power fluctuates there's alway a one-bar minimum. If tested on the right side USB ports many times I don't even get to see a single bar.

I suppose all notebooks are designed in this manner in that there'll be at least one USB port thats adequate to provide for power-hungry devices

I just have to remember this

Thanks for the info
