hi all,

my dell inspiron 9100 does not power on. When I press the power button, the green light lits for sometime and then becomes off. All other LED lights do not even start up. I tried all the procedures that are in Dell tech support doc.

I took it to BestBuy and they r quoting high prices and mentioned that MotherBoard might be an issue.

Any help is highly appreciated.

I had a similar problem with my dell 5100, what my problem was a bad dimm conector for the ram if you have ramm in slot A try it in B, I had the same problem and they said my motherboard was fried, in actuallity it was just the dimm which you can't fix but if you can live with half the memory you can keep using it

I had that problem with my i8600. Found I had a faulty RAM stick. Try what chris said. If you have two chips, try each individually in slot A and B.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I tried keeping the RAMs individually in each slots and that still did not work.
I still keep getting the same green light lit for sometime and then disappear.

I removed the battery to see if there is any problem with the power adapter. The adapter seems working. However, I noticed that when the changed the RAM to a different slot, the green light does not even show up. I need to unplug the power wire from the slot and keep it again for the green light to show up. Is it normal ??

Is there anything I could do further to see what the exact problem is

I'm not sure. Sorry!
