I purchased an Inspiron 700m about two weeks ago, and am having severe problems with freezing in conjunction with corrupted video. It's completely intermittent, but after approximately an hour or so of use, the display will suddenly turn entirely blue and pink, with a few thin green lines near the top of the display. The display will also flash at about 4 or 5 cycles per second.
Once this happens, the laptop is also entirely nonresponsive. I know this because the green LEDs on the monitor panel no longer respond to user input - the WiFi card (for example) can no longer be toggled on and off.
So far, I've tried the following:
- run Dell Diagnostics (no errors)
- flashed the BIOS to A05 (the latest)
- updated the video driver
- run the Dell Crash Analysis Tool, which suggested a potential problem with some of the Sonic software. I uninstalled all of it and rebooted, but the problem still occurs.
I'm not entirely sure how to proceed now. I've had this machine less than two weeks, so I have no qualms about simply returning it. But I'd hate it to come to that.
Any ideas?
