Laptop does not boot in the docking station with the lid closed and power attached

Have a Dell Latitude C610. Was working fine and all of a sudden it does not boot while in the docking station with the external power connected and the lid closed. If I remove the external power or open the lid - it works fine.
Tried to change the buttery - no effect. Updated BIOS to the latest version: A16 - no effect. Does anyone have any info on that?
