cant play DVD's

Ok I Just got this Dell 9300 and cleaned the HDD and reinstalled the OS and now I can not play DVDs w/ Media Player or in Media center Mode.
( ARGGGGG!!!!! Dell tells me I have buy software support for them to help me I Told them they disgusted me. I cant wait till laptop build parts are as readily available ATX formfactors are.)
Any how I get this message when I try to play a DVD "Decoder Error the video decoder has either malfunctioned or is not installed. please restart Media Center and or the computer."
Also I installed Nvidia's Decoder and still the same error, checked dvd rom is set to region 1.

Did you check to see if the drivers are ok...not in yellow or red?

alright just off the hook with Dell and I have got a PowerDVD disk coming soon
My guess is that the OS (MCE 2005) needs to have this program. I did a fresh install of the OS and there is a cyberlink folder in the program files folder WEIRD.

I Use Powerdvd, Thats The Decoder You Need.you Can Use Powerdvd As Your Default.

Yes, your right RCI, I just made some . . improvisions and quickly aquired powerdvd after installing it my problem is resolved. It automatically integrated into MCE 2005. :awdance:

I cant belive Dell didnt ship it with the 9300. :mad: Dell should know that people who order MCE OS are going to also need powerdvd or an DVD player that works with MCE. I never had the problem with any of my desktops that I built and they all have XP Pro.

No XP version comes with a DVD Decoder, not just MCE. If you didin't have a problem on the other ones then you installed a decoder somehow. Same situation happened to me, I said screw Dell and just bought nVidia's decoder, I'm happy with it. Glad you got everything running.

Is that program downloadable from Dell?? DAMMIT - I just reformatted and installed my new M170, and I'm in the same boat!!
