Check them out at www.crucial.com, I purchased an i8600 for one of our Web designers and got a 1gig replacement for $260 instead of the $1100 Dell is charging. You can use normal SoDimm PC2700 DDR that most notebooks use now these days. :mmm:

I just got 1 gig (2 sticks 512mb)of Kingmax PC2700 333mz at newegg for $170 works great- then sold the 2 sticks of 256 on ebay for $50. Kingmax works great & the speed difference is very noticeable. Helps if you have no page file

I bought the same as speed but I just got 1 512 stick and my 8600 flys compared to having just 256mb. Kingmax works good and I haven't had it get real hot yet (above 65C) while gaming.

I ordered my 8600 with one 512mb stick of the 2700, with the intention of upgrading. After looking around a bit, I see I can get the 3200 stuff now, so I have a couple of questions:

1. Can/should I mix 3200 with 2700?

2. Can I put a 1 gig chip in with a 512mb chip or do they have to be the same size?

3. Dell-Machina reccomends the Kingmax stuff too, but what about the GEil Dragon memory? any good?

Thanks for the input!

1. You can mix that combination without penalty but make sure the 3200 is not "high density" memeory

2. you can put that amount and no they dont have ot be the same size.

3. Ive used geil and there a bit too warm for my tastes

I just purchased a 8600 with 512MB of RAM and 60Gig (7200RPM) hard drive. I was wondering if I wanted to put in PC3200 (DDR400) would that increase the speed of my system when running multiple programs?

What is the difference between using PC2700 and PC3200?

I am pretty new to this stuff so please don't hammer me. I am really looking forward to getting my new machine. Should be here on the 23rd!
