hello! i just purchased my refurbished dell 6000 over a week ago. it has been running fine and dandy since i turned it on, until yesterday.

i burned a dvd for the first time yesterday. i used nero, and used the option to 'shut down the computer' once burning was completed. in the morning, i went to my laptop and it was turned off, but, the screen was on, although completely black. (this information might have something to do with the problem, although, it might not)

i turned my computer on and the left fan, #1, started making a weird noise, a whirring of some sort, not the normal fan noise. this noise was and has been consistent every second of the computer being powered on.

i downloaded I9kfanGUI to see what was going on. fan 1 claims to be running at a speed of 3017 rpm and in a high state. although it says this, the actually fan isnt blasting away and cooling the machine down. i can however turn the fan on manually, and it works just fine. i can also turn the fan off, and the whirring noise stops completely.

any suggestions on how to stop the noise and have it back to normal would be greatly appreciated. is there some sort of driver i can download to fix this? i updated bios already, on top of other drivers, but i may have missed a crucial one.

specifics of my computer:

1.73ghz pentium m
1gb ram
integrated video
dvd+-rw burner

thanks

thanks for the suggestion, but this did not work. the noise is still present.
