Hi

I just did a total format of my Inspiron XPS, 1st gen, reinstalled win xp HE from the image I extracted from the "old" system.
First, my serial for win xp on the dell tag didn't work!!!!!
Then I realised when the comp. went into standby or hibernate mode - it totally locked up. I have to push the on/off button and restart it.
The computer wont either shut down poperly - it hangs when windows says its shutting down!
The only extra I have installed is the SB-card in the pcmcia port.
Anyone knows of a solution?

Thanx
Daniel

there is your problem right there. youre restoring an image. that image has a problem obviously, whether it be drivers, or even from a different SYStem all together.

try to install the chipset driver over again. or maybe the bios.

other than that all i can tell you is to reformat, because chances are you wont fix it without doing that anyways.

Well, it's not really restoring an image. Dell has, instead of giving u cd's, put an image of windows on the system that u extract and then burn - alas u got ur windows cd without them have to pay for an extra cd.... =).
I'll try reinstalling the chipset drivers and bios again - hope that'll do the trick!

Thanx

if it doesnt, you may want to format it. but again, you will benefit from that anyway.

Hey
Well, it worked, whoohaa!!! The reason it stopped was that I just formatted it and I won't go through that again....maybe I have to - coz' now the friggin' dell wireless card won't "start".... =( LoL
Thanx for the help!! Appreciated!
