i got a brand new 9300. I cant remember the wifi module description. but its only b/g i think
anyways, i can connect without any problems. I'm using intel pro set wireless.
After a while my connection just drops. I dont know why. No other computer in my house has that problem.

The funny thing is that if i go "function F2" to turn wifi off, then turn it back on, my wifi picks up the connection again.

when it drops, its sometimes after an hour, sometimes longer, a couple of times its been after only half hour.

I dont know why. I think i have the latest drivers for it, but still not sure what could be wrong.

any ideas?

install the original proset drivers , on disk.

will work wonders.
wont have all the bells and whistles that the new proset 10 has, but i notice no drops with the v.9

with drivers YMMV all the more luck of the draw. Some will suggest to go as far as relacing the wifi card with a different brand all together which sometimes comparing to the crappy intel card they give you im inclined to agree.

i also had this issue with my i6000, it would drop a connection within an hour... i even got Dell to replace my card, which didnt fix it. However after i reformatted and installed the latest this problem went away.

i notice with the new drivers (v10) my wifi light would randomly go out.

this was a little annoying to me.

i reverted back to the "cd drivers" dell sent with the laptop, havent looked back.

the only drivers i've ever used is the ones off the cd they provided
i have actually installed the latest pro set drivers, but unfortunatly havent had time to fully test them out yet. I'll let you know if there is any issues with them.

Yeah my wifi light used to go out, and the connection dialog box would appear sayin it has just connected to my AP... which wasnt a big deal but was kind of annoying.

I uninstalled the latest drivers and went back to the ones that were on the driver cd that dell sent me.
I still got the same problems, so i tried to change the channell from 11 to something else. I tried 13 and i think went worse and was disconnecting every minute or so. i tried channel 1 and it was just as bad, so now i'm back on channel 11 and it seems to be holding.

I dont know how long it will hold for, is there anything i can try. I'm sure its to do with interference or maybe the drivers. I have tried to see if any part of my house affects differently but no difference.
The thing is that when it connects it say the reception is excellent, so i dont think its to do with my range or anything.

As i typed this is dropped again.
I'm getting frustrated now. I might have to ring dell up or something.

This is exactly what happened to me. Basically it would disconnect so often that i couldnt even use P2P or download large files as it would drop the connection. However i knew it wasnt my AP as my work laptop didnt have this issue.

I got dell to send me a new card (got to the point where i was about to throw the laptop out of the window!) The new card had a newer firmware version, however the same thing happened.... till i eventually reinstalled everything and put the latest drivers only... i.e not install them over the older ones... and its been working like a treat ever since.

I had the exact same problem on my i9200 - tried evrything, nothing helped. Until release 9.0.2.1 of the Intel drivers. I've had no problem since then, although my green WiFi light sometimes goes out. But the connection remains good. As the 9.0.2.1 release works well for me I'm not even going to risk an upgrade to newer releases.

i'm using the one that came with the instal cd. It lasts for about an hour before dropping.
the only other driver i have is the very latest which seems to have made it worse.
so i think thats about it at this stage then, nothing i can do.
I think i'll either get to another place and see how long i can stay connected for and if it doesnt ever drop, then it must be something at my house causing interference.
if it drops, the it could be the driver or something else.

i think i've got it now. I've been online for nearly 3 hours without any disconnection at all.
this is the longest i've been online. and i'm still going with other devices going which i previously thought could have been interferring.

what i did, was went to device manager and set the power management to max for my wireless device.

thats it

i'm happy, just thought i'd tell you in case someone else has a problem, this is one thing that you can try.
oh and by the way i'm using the original dell drivers
