Does anyone know what the differnece is between a Dell 300 Bluetooth module, and a Dell 350 Bluetooth module?

Also, if you order an XPS M170 WITHOUT the bluetooth option, does the cable come with the laptop? In other words, if I want to add bluetooth later, do I need JUST the module, or do I have to get the cable as well?

TM300 = VER 1.2
TM350 = VER 2.0

Cable should be there already.

Cheaper to get the module later, as when you order with the unit,
you are paying for the Bluetooth License as well.

Thanks for the clarification. Actually, it would of been cheaper to get it when new. A new one would only of cost me CAN$50.00, where as all the ones on Ebay are US$50.00 after all shipping. Haven't tried Dell spare parts though.

Ebay typically sells things like this very overpriced. 350 costs about $15 on spare parts. I don't know how they do things in canada though.

Very pleased with my purchase from this eBay seller. {click here} (http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrppZ25QQsassZblue32701QQssPageNameZADMEQ3aBQ3aBCAQ3aUSQ3a46)

He typically puts up four TM350's a day, on a 24 hour bid.

Lot of fun bidding, most sold for $10-13 US.

Alternative is about same money, but must telephone Dell Spare Parts,
no clue on Canadian procedure.

In germany you pay 17,40€ (which is about 15$) when ordering directly with the notebook, so I'd say that it's not really cheaper to not order the bt module with the laptop.
Especially as you have to disassemble most laptops to install the bt-module (which might void your warranty).

I paid Dell $49US additional for the Bluetooth to be included in my D800 (9/2004) and bypassing a license fee would be stealing:(

Let me get this straight...

so when you order your BT adapter with your notebook and pay the $49 USD (including the BT license) then return your notebook for a refund -- it means that when I buy it from Dell Spare Part for $15 I have to pay for your BT license again?

I don't need a $34 sticker on the bottom of my notebook.

You have it straight, it just means that if Spare Parts 'goes by the book' they won't sell you a Module without the $34 sticker on your bottom:)

or alongside the Hard Drive at the worst, the BT Cable is included BT or no.

Since Bluetooth is a Swedish Development, my GUESS
would be that your price structure might be a Sweden/Germany protection agreement
to charge (License) for a Bluetooth Capable System, with or without the Module.

I just checked in the service manual for the i6000 and you are right, it's easy to install as you just have to remove the battery and open a small compartment to insert the module.

What does this $34 dolloar sticker look like?
If it's just the one telling you the fcc conformity and the bluetooth hardware adress, than I also have it.

As a practical matter, it seems to be no problem getting from DSP. I would just use your Customer Number
and if they ask about Service Tag, just say you left your i93k home.:'(

I mainly wanted a spare for my TM300, but was concerned that DSP would sell me another TM300 instead of TM350
(wanted to see the difference, which was none for my BT Devices,
IntelliMouse was already much faster than "Screen Refresh Rate"
Printer can only print so fast and GPS updates just once per second.
Would expect there to be a big difference on some Audio Devices.)

So I bought it on eBay (left a link for that on post #5) and it was a TM350 for a little less than DSP.:dance2:

Just a caution to watch for, (happened to me and a few others) Dell's 'Firmware Flash' leaves the USB CSR
that it uses to change the firmware on the TM350 in place of your USB Root Hub that Powers the Module,
I had to reinstall Dell Notebook System Software to get it working again.

been there, done that (from same thread):
http://www.notebookforums.com/showpost.php?p=926553&postcount=117

My iXPS does not have a BT sticker. A few months after I bought it, I called DSP and gave them my service tag and requested a TM300. It cost $24.95 USD + $8 shipping. It did not come with a sticker.

In March of 2005 (see the above and below links) I called DSP and using only my account number and a lie, I ordered a TM350. I knew if I used my service tag that DSP would not serve me. I worked the system to get what I wanted. No one cared. No one questioned what I was doing.

I was there in the beginning for using the TM350 in unapproved systems. I wrote a page (http://vbdotnet.home.comcast.net/BT_2.0_experiment.htm) about it.
