Hi
Sorry if this has been asked before but I am planning to purchase an Acer TM4404 form ZipZoomFly. My concern is that I live in Chile, South America so I just want to make sure that if I buy an Acer Notebook in the US and then bring it to Chile, where I permanently live, it will be covered by the warranty here in Chile's Acer representative without having to take it back to the States. I can't find that out by my self since I am not able to call Acer in the US, that's why I want to know if anyone has had any experience with this.
I am aware that Acer offers an International Travelers Warranty which is of no use for me since I permanently live outside the country where the product will be purchased.
If the standard notebook's warranty is no good for Chile, I want to know if I can buy some extension plan or whatever so I can be able to make use of the warranty abroad if needed.
A friend of mine living in Florida is going to order the computer from ZZF and when he travels to Chile he will bring me the laptop.
Thanks,
Nicolas Schubert

Hi,
Well I do not have good news for you. Coming out from my experience, this is not the best way to go. Acer protects themselve by avoiding ITW for buying the notebooks cheaper in the US and having it repaired in your homecountry. The have a disclaimer that the ITW is applicable if you are bona fide traveler, which means, if you are asking for a repair outside of the country of purchase but at the same time it cant be the country where you have your permanent stay. So if you buy the NTB in Florida, take it home and request repair, they would check if you are staying in Chile not longer than 3months and if you are just on your travels. Otherwise they might refuese to repair it free of charge.
But, if you have some fried of you who lives in Chile, but is of other citrizenship, you can "buy the notebook for him" and he can request the repair if needed. The other thing is, what kind of rights Acer has to check your ravel papers, as they are not official institution and as they say, they tend to trust to customers. But they verbaly ask each time for your status if claiming ITW. :$
But beware also of the fact, that you will never be able to get the rpoduct exchanged, even though it would not be repairable. The exchange of the notebook is not included in ITW, trhey can just repair...that sucks as what heppened to a firend of mine is, that the service center "repaired" her notebook under ITW the way that they actually caused new malfunctions. They tried 3 times and could not solve it, and now they deny their responsibility and say she should contact Acer US where the notebook was originaly bought. :cursing:
I am not implying anything just sharing some experience. I mean, it depends on the actual mashine. My first TM803 has been working great for 4 years. But other one, my firend has, has never been in good shape actually:sneaky2:

Thats really bad news :thumbdown I was hopping Acer provides a International Warranty like Toshiba or Hp does. If it helps I do have German citizenship. I guess I'll thake the risk and buy it anyway since I can't get such a notebook here for that price. I hope nothing fails and if it does I hope it's nothing expensive like the screen or motherboard.

i got my 8104 in USA, had ITW service in New Zealand (my permanent address is there) no trouble. they didn't ask or check anything about residency. Don't know about Chile tho.
one thing - you cant extend the ITW - it's 1 year only. Only the USA warranty can be extended to 3 years.

Thanks for the reply. Actually there is a extension plan for Latin America https://secure.tx.acer.com/findsystem/ExtendedWarranties.aspx but I don't know if that's what I need, since no information is provided on it.
Acer hasn't replied to my email enquiry so I guess I'll have to wait or buy another brand.

Just to let others know what I have found out. Seems to me that Acer "officially" does not provide an International Warranty besides the ITW and it looks every Acer representative can accept or deny the warranty coverage of a notebook purchased abroad. I'll have to find another notebook manufacturer that does provide a full international warranty.
I hope this helps others in a similar situation as mine.
Dear Nicolas Schubert,
Please note the ITW warranty covers those who travel to regions outside
their country of residence. If you purchase the notebook in the US but live
in Chile, the ITW warranty may not apply since you are going to live in
Chile. Yes, Acer provides a one year ITW warranty with the notebook which
is included with the cost of the notebook. The ITW warranty covers those
who travel to regions outside their country of residence. If you purchase
the notebook in the US but move to Chile, the ITW warranty may not apply
since you are going to live in Chile. You would have to contact Acer
Patistan to verify whether they would cover the notebook

Yes, Acer completely sucks in the mean of customer support! Trust me. I am very sad saying that though....

Well I live in Brazil, and im about to do the same thing... buy in the USA and bring it here... Although I know I probably wont have a warranty (I think that only Dell extends its warranty here, and dell suck IMO) I'll just risk it... If something goes wrong I guess I'll have to wait and see if someone could go to the USA and repair it for me, or I could try repairing it here (paying of course)
