hey everyone I'm thinking about selling the seagate 120 on ebay and getting a Hitachi 7k100 100gb Sata hard drive. Will that be a big difference in speed? (I want to max this sucka out!)

You should definitely notice an improvment in read write times which of course will enhance the overall system performance.

iNsAnEcLoWn, how are you planning on installing the OS on the new drive? The XP media doesn't come with the 8204. I guess it's all on that hidden partition ... just wondering how you plan to do it. Thanks.

I bought a windows xp pro retail on ebay so that's what I plan to do, install it using ntfs and keeping one whole partition.

iNsAnEcLoWn, I also noticed you have Corsair 2gb DDR 667 Ram. Do you know what the Cache Latency on that memory is? Have you run any benchmarks before / after your 667 memory upgrade?

Yes I just got done running Sandra 2005 and have benches for my RAM, I will post them soon. I got the Hitachi drive for $203.65 at Pcsuperstore.com they seem to have the best prices. I am selling my hard drive now, it's goin for 100.00 on ebay I assume I will get more than that.

Have you looked at the mobile SATA hard drive round up here (http://www.techreport.com/reviews/2006q1/mobile-hdds/index.x?pg=1) yet?
The Seagate Momentus 7200.1 looks to be a worthy competitor for the 7K100, and the Momentus 5400.2 (that you've already got) is even competitive with it in some tests..
Our test results show very clear performance differences between the 2.5" mobile Serial ATA hard drives we assembled. At times, those performance differences were surprising, as we certainly didn't expect to see Seagate's Momentus 5400.2 beating Hitachi's Travelstar 7K100 in so many tests Hrmmm...

Oh yeah, if you don't want to get rid of the 5400.2, you can (apparently) get a housing that replaces the optical drive, allowing you to run two drives in the 8204..
