I'm Bored

That's right. I'm bored. Ive been running ubuntu for months now, and im simply bored. I need a bit of a challenge i think. Im profficient in a good amount of commands, i read tutorials alot, but im simply bored. What do you guys reccomend i do. Maybe tweak my ubuntu, make it slimmer like ABF did, maybe install xfce. I dont know. Learn how to compile a bit. I have no clue. Maybe try Debian? What do you guys reccomend?

I have decided to take up C programming using the Anjuta IDE. (It'll probably take me forever to get to where I can create a really useful program, but I'm going to try anyway.) If you are bored, like Linux, and have time, why not try your hand at it.

Thats right lol, I forgot i had begun reading and learning Python. I think ill still pursue that, but im interesting in learning much more of Linux than programming right now, or so I think. Like you said though, programming takes so much more time. :bored:

Just hit the ubuntuforums howto section and you'll have cool stuff to do for months.

Well suggestions...

Give Gentoo a whirl...

If going for programming, take up Bash Scripting. You wont believe how powerful and easy this can make your linux experience. I am working on it myself, but going very slow

If going for C++, start out not with Anjuta, but with EMacs or another straight text editor. That way you dont have any automated systems to screw you up, or to do work for oyu and you dont learn it.

Python is definitly another possibility I havent started on. Unfortunatly I dont get bored, if I have time to be bored I am trying to get more than 4 hours of sleep a night.

if you're bored. there is always gentoo. if you are super-bored, maybe LFS is up your alley? NOT! But anyway, yeah, do that, or hit up the ubuntu howtos and you will be set for a while. try the e17 cvs howto. looks interesting.

i agree. btw python is super easy bro, do a few tutroials and learn how to right commands and junk and u'll get better. C++ is the pain in the ass, python is like baby crap.(learing wise)

Python is great, whenever classes let me pick whatever language I want, I always choose Python. It just means doing a lot less work. If you ever actually mess around with the Linux Kernel, C is what you NEED to know. I think the whole thing is written in C.

As for an editor, I'm gonna have to say my favorite is Vim =P. Let me know if you have any questions about programming.

Heh for some reason I have either read or own most of that list;) Never was to impressed with Wi-Foo, but that is kinda a niche market it applies to IMO.

See here is the thing, I already KNOW C and C++, I just never have time to use them, and have about 3 projects I need to get started on myself;) Just never have time;) As I said if I have time to be bored, that usually means I almost have time to sleep.
