View Full Version : ACER 5672 STRIPES ON SCREEN WHILE FoRMATTING
just had a weird experience. I was formatting another partition in windows, while all of a sudden my desktop got transformed into stripes :w00t:
After the format being done, and having restarted, this was gone.
Anyone a clue? Is this normal? What could have ben the cause of this?

hehe, I wish it was that :-)
but it was really weird. It was only on my desktop wallpaper and on the 'format'-window. When opening firefox, that window was ok, although the overall graphics quality looked a lot less...
Could it have been due to the shared memory of the graphics card... maybe not enough when formatting?
Man, I really don't want to see that again, I thought something was seriously damaged.

were the lines all the way across or were they just like shorter blocks
I saw some on mine off to the left hand side briefly, dragging a window over them erased them but it was strange like displaced image fragments
similar things usually happen when bad memory is referenced, I am just hoping that this is not the case with my machine.
they were more like shorter 'blocks' not over the total length of the screen. I saw it only once, when formatting the other partition.
what do you mean by bad memory? could this have something to do with my hd-clicking ? :-(

actually the blocks are exactly what I saw, while running just MSN but it hasnt happened since, dont know what it was,
if it doesnt happen again, I wouldnt worry about it.
best thing to do is get a 3dmark application and run that as it will max out your graphics card and make it use all the memory it has at its disposal.
if you get artifacts on screen then there is a high likelyhood of bad memory, could be vga or shared memory, tho, so it would be a warranty checkup.
I have run 3dmark06 and there were no graphics issues, I think it might just have been a windows glitch.
I will update if any more happens
good luck :)
I just ran 3DMark05, and didn't notice anything unusual (except that in the first two parts of the test the screen looked much more detailed as in the second two part, but this is part of the test I guess?), but I didn't notice what I saw earlier ( the stripes in some parts of the screen).
The result wasn't that high: only 1624.
