As most of you know, you cannot install ATI's catalyst 6.2 drivers on laptops like 5672 "officially".
Some people managed to trick the installer into thinking that the x1400 is on the "list" (of video cards compatible).
Two questions: How to do that? And is there any rreal advantage to the 6.2's versus Acer's drivers?

you go to www.guru3d.com and download Mobilemod, then install the normal desktop Cat 6.2 drivers, and yes there is an advantage to doing so, on the X1600 laptops it's as much as 10% faster, the benifit is less with the X1400's but still noticable from what I have heard.

No it wouldn't, read the original post.

Yes, mobilewannabe, that will work. It is the actual driver, not the stupid little program that ATI normally wants you to download that just checks your computer for compatibility. Download the driver at the link: http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst
And fully uninstall your previous driver (then run Driver Cleaner), and reboot and install this driver.
Try it, then let us know it doesn't work.

I downloaded the mobile catalyst yesterday since I noticed the version number has changed, but there is still no X1000 series in the .inf entries.
So it still doesn't work.
Ransomed1, that is what I am talking about.

edit the .ini in a text editor and add the word Mobility.

I suppose a question becomes: is there a reason why ATI hasn't added the X1000 line of GPU's to this Catalyst version? It's not very conceivable that it's just an oversight... They're usually much better at such things.

That's what I said, and the reason Ati has not added the new parts is much the same reason that they did not offer mobile cat's untill recently. There are a lot of variations in a laptop design and untill recently Ati perfered to allow the laptop OEM to design and test the drivers to ensure stability on the exact configuration of each laptop. Ati is just geting out of that mind set now so they are taking things very slowly with their mobile cats, look at how many laptops are not on the approved mobile cat's list.
