Hi all, I'm testing Vista on an Acer Aspire 5020 (5021wlmi), the builtin
wireless Broadcom card is detected and all the drivers have been installed.
The laptop seems to need software to "turn on" the hardware card, (big orange
button on the front that glows to show connectivity in XP, and works as a
hardware on/off button)
The software that controls this, launchmanager, doesnt work with vista,
installation goes ok but nothing happens. I've tried various forums etc but
with no luck. The button on the front is the only way to hardware turn on the
card, even though the software is set up ok. Has anyone found a solution to
this? if so, I would be grateful to hear. Thank you, Ian.

I have it solved. If the application is installed and then set to run with compatibility mode with XPsp2 it will work fine. The only slight difference - the orange light is no longer "on" it flashes intermittently with the data being transfered... all working now though..

ianrandy, where did you get all the needed driver for vista? are you testing the 64 bit version or the 32 bit?

On install Vista picked up my gigabit ethernet card fine, after installation it connected to microsoft update via an "update hardware" link on the welcome page and downloaded the drivers that were missing.

The only one not found was the modem. ATI drivers are microsofts, not tried installing genuine ATI ones yet but video performance is good. All other hardware was picked up, even things like memory card reader, after install and update.

The drivers for touchpad and soundmax from the Acer site worked fine just by running the setup. (although vista had already detected and installed them using MS drivers) http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_3020_5020.html for my 5021.

The only issue was with the launchmanager software, for turning on the wireless card. All the drivers were detected and setup on install however, just missing the software to control the hardware "on" switch. I downloaded launchmanager from the link above and installed it using "Windows XP sp2 compatibility mode" (right-click on the exe and select "properties") - after i did that it all worked fine.

I have only been using 32bit versions so far, i wanted to be sure it all worked before i moved over to 64.
