View Full Version : New 8204 comes tomorrow

Man oh man I'm so anxious to receive my "first shipment" of the 8204. I am receiving it from tiger Direct after two weeks of waiting for my pay pal to process (I don't have a canadian credit card for verification). They put it on hold for me since the 13th of February.

Has anyone received an 8204 from Tiger Direct's second batch from Acer? I hope with my fingers crossed it doesn't have light leakage, ripples and all the problems I have read about!

wasn't as impressed right out of the box but man oh man this machine just screams!

Yep the screen is dim, but when you start messing around with the avivo settings, it's actually not that bad, quite pleasant. I just moved into an apartment and I have dim lights but the screen on the 8204 is really bright.

I'm not sure if I do, I heard these little chirps but you can barely hear it and it started to come on when I was using limewire. I think it's just the hard drive working.

Otherwise this laptop friggin' screams faster than anything I have ever worked on. I was ripping a dvd using dvd decryptor, downloading a ton off limewire, installing software, 10 windows of explorer, outlook, mind mapping software and it was only using like 10 percent. The best part is when you look at the system performance graph and there are two windows coz it's dual core!

Just follow the instructions on how to tweak your screen using the catalyst control panel.

Grrrrrrrrr.

Evedently the FedEx tracking number that I received from zipzoomfly was not valid. Data was sent to FedEx requesting a pickup but there was really no package to pickup. So even though zipzoomfly's website says they shipped to me (with delivery due today). They have not...and they're backordered a will not tell me when they might get more in! :thumbdown

I believe that CDW has them in stock. And, I doubt that such a thing would happen with them.

dang, I hear a slight buzzing sound, Like I have to put my ear to it, but I can hear a constant buzzing noise. Is that what everyone is talking about?

Dang I hear a little bit when I scroll up and down using trillian. I really don't want to return it unless it's really damaging to the motherboard.

Yah it's a lot louder with that sample demo. I mean it's not that loud, the machine overall is quieter than my sager so maybe I can live with it. I remember reading a thread about everyone having these issues but I can't seem to find it.

Seriously though, it's like a zzzzzzzzzzzz sound or I guess kind of like a buzz. I can only hear it if I put my ear right down to the keyboard. I mean I gotta get it with in a 1/2 an inch. I do not hear it when dragging windows, or scrolling, or with the Car demo in the Catalyst screen, or gaming with COD2, BF2, F.E.A.R., etc, or PhotoShop CS2, Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Macromedia Studio 8, yada, yada, yada. I only get it with the demo I downloaded above. I don't think it will be a problem for me in the least. I've had laptops in the past that have made all kinds of noises when working, from fans, to noisy processors. I simpathize with anyone who might have that loud though. That would drive me nutts.

I wonder ultimately this can be fixed with a driver or software fix. Seams like anyone who has sent there's in get's it back with just having some updates done like the BIOS. Hmmm....

It is bizarre. I get the sound when I drag windows explorer windows aroud or scroll them. Although I don't get it when scroll though FireFox. I get it in the video options screen in BattleField 2, but no when I'm actually playing BF2.

I originally ordered from them on the 16th - website said in stock, still says in stock actually. They never did ship it, but I've called them multiple times and it's always "Umm, yeah, a mistake happened." or "You'll need to wait another week." or "The website is wrong - it's really out of stock."

Yah I get it when I have the cursor going over Trillian. I just want to make sure it's not harming my graphics card/mobo.

Otherwise I'm super happy with this laptop, thing just cranks away. If anything it'll make me money with the work that I do and I'll buy a new one in two years.

PC Connection has them right now, if you're quick; I got #15 out of 18 they were shipped...
