Been watching Steve Jobs keynote at MacWorld, and it's amazing how the new MacBook Pro's are SO similar to the Aspire 5672WLMi. Right down to the built-in cameras, silver cases, ATI video card, DVI video out, Bluetooth, Core Duo Processors...heck even the background wallpaper on the new MacBook Pro looks like the Aspire default wallpaper (blue wispy type).

Seriously, go watch the last 1/2 hour of his keynote at www.apple.com and tell me if you agree. The dang things look almost identical! Seriously.

Of course these are running OS X, and get this, only 512 megs of memory, and 80 gig hard drives. Oh yea, and $2000. Let's see, I paid $1250, got 120 gig hard drive, and 2 gigs of memory...

I'll stick with my Acer!

I've seen a 5672 and while I haven't seen the new MacBook in person, but it's pretty much identical looking as the previous PowerBooks and I gotta say you must be blind if you can't see the difference. The Acer is no where near as sleek and clean looking. It's thicker by nearly half an inch, deeper by over an inch and a whole pound heavier. The 5672 is clearly made of plastic, it's well built but the chassis material is not firm. The Radeon X1400 is a upper end budget card while the X1600 is a significantly faster midrange card.

The 5672 is a great deal and I'm sure Acer is selling tons, but there's nothing special about it other then availability. In a few months every OEM is going to have a Core Duo with similar specs. Apple can charge a premium for the MacBook because they've brought together a powerful system in a thin, lightweight and aesthetically pleasing package that no other manufacturer has matched yet.

The Mac is 1", the Acer 1.10", pretty close (taken from Acer Manual); Mac is 5.6lb., the Acer 6.5, pretty close; both pretty sleek and clean (IMHO).

Both are 15.4" widescreens, not sure what the Mac's case is made of, metal? Maybe. Plastic?

By the way, my vision is 20/20, and I'm not trying to say they are "identical" but very very similar, in MANY ways.

The PowerBook is pure aluminium.

If I didn't work in a very PC-centric industry, and thus didn't need to keep my skills sharp on a daily basis, I'd buy a Mac in a heartbeat. I love my 8204, but as much as I can't stand Apple's Leftist trendy superiority, they do make nice machines. Bastards. ;-)

Two words, "build quality". My powerbooks are far superior in quality vs the Ferrari but hey, the Acer is my first PC.

I started my computer life with Macs (two of them), and today I can't stand them. I used a PC (Windows/Linux) for years.
