Hey Guys,
I was wondering if I have a faulty graphics card. When I go into the ATI properties and click on 3D, you know when it shows the little car. For a second just before it shows it the screen flicks to black. This also happens when I load an application, just before the program fully initializes the screen flicks to black. Do you know if this graphics card issue can be resolved. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey guys
If no one knows the answer, can you tell me if anybody else has this problem. I am trying to find out if it is normal or not.
Thanks

I have an 5672 and don't seem to have the problem you describe. Does your whole screen become black or only the screen of the application?
Anyway, mine doesn't become black any way.

Hi enlighten,
I have the same problem as you I think. But with the ATI control, the car that it's showing is fine on mine but whenever I startup, my screen goes black for awhile after it has done the startup (so I thought) but then continues to finish the startup. Also, there are times I see error messages up and other times, the grey message box appears without any text for a second then disappears. I know I never had this problem before but it started when I did a reinstall after being infected with viruses. Did you manage to get your problem sorted out in the end? Id so, please do tell me what you did so I can get mine sorted out too. Thanks! :)

Heh. Funny thing.
On my travelmate i had unistalled the ATI drivers and control center (in order to install Omega drivers) restarted it and the screen just kept flashing and wouldn't stop.. Restarted and installed Omega drivers and it has never done that.
Also Knownuts press Alt and Tab and you shall see the grey box. its a Gravsenser issue. For some unknown reason it will dissapear if you press Anti-Theft and then deactivate it. The grey box dissapears from Alt tab and on the background. You can fix it by downloading the Gravsense Version 10 of Acer.

CoolHotCold.....we meet again. Thanks for informing about that grey box issue. I guess I have a lot to learn from you and the others in this forum. Another thing I have to do to solve this problem. I'm just wandering when all this will stop. I didn't have any problems at all with mine at all until I did a reinstallation from the recovery CDs to get rid of the viruses so now I'm going to try and reboot from the hidden partition in case the recovery CDs are not so stable. I seems to have a problem in finding the Acer disk-to-disk recovery in the BIOS settings so if you know where I can find that please do tell me. Much appreciated! And thanks again for your help. :)

Press F2 to get into Bios.
Scroll across to Main and you will see a option called "D2D Recovery".
Enable that and your golden.
And remember it should be Alt + F10 to get into the Acer Recovery from HHD

Thanks for telling me this. :) When you say press Alt+F10, do you mean when I'm in the BIOS settings that I have to do that after I've Enabled the
D2D Recovery? Cos after I Enabled D2D Recovery and exit the BIOS settings, I press Alt+F10 when it started up showing the "Acer" page before the "Welcome" of Windows and nothing happened. So, I'm a bit confused here (cos I'm an idiot when comes to these things).

Just keep Pressing Alt + F10 From the moment you turn the laptop on It will Do the windows loading bit. THEN it will go into the Acer Recovery Utility to recover from the hidden HHD partician
Just found out that holding down the Alt key doesnt work. It has to be press & Hold alt then F10. And repeat. It does work just keek doing it. (and no not in the bios)

Hi CoolHotCold! I tried doing what you have said and it still doesn't work. :(
Here's what I did....ALT+F10 brings up the eRecovery and I entered the password then checked Recovery Actions (to restore system factory default configurations) then checked Restore Factory Default System then checked Yes then the screen stayed still for awhile and then closed down like in Restart.
When it restarted, I pressed ALT+F10 continuously (hold down Alt (not pressed down all the time) then F10) till it restarted to the beginning. Still nothing happens or shows me that I can boot from the hidden partition and the eRecovery would then show up on the screen again. If I do the same thing and go through the password, etc....same thing happens which is nothing. What did I do wrong or where did I go wrong as it doesn't seem to want to boot from the hidden partition. Looking forward to your reply on this. :)

Hrmm. What you want to do is when you have the option to go to Bios (where it says press F2 to enter bios you need to press Alt and F10 It will then jump to a screen which has "Starting Acer Erecovery Managment thingy" then it will do the windows loading bit then (required for Mouse and graphics) and it will then go to Acer Recovery, You enter in the password Click next, then click System Recovery, then Next, then click Restore Factory Default System and it will recover from the hidden partition.
Remember to ensure you have D2D enabled in bios

CoolHotCold, I tried doing what you said and still nothing happened. It just refuses to boot up from the hidden parition. I gave up in the end after trying so many times. I decided to go to eRecovery to do the boot from the recovery CDs I burnt when one first got the machine. And all seems to be OK as far as the booting goes. I have yet to test it out so when I do, I shall let you know how it is. I just find it rather annoying that it didn't want to boot up from the hidden partition. Maybe when I last did the boot up from the recovery CDs, it wasn't done properly. Hopefully this time, it's OK so I can test the hidden partition boot up once I've done an image with eRecovery on the present settings. Will keep you posted on this. :)
