HI, I have a brand new 8204 and trying to reinstall windows...
The problem Im having is with the volume license key.
I got this windows xp cd from a friend with sp1 so I splitstreamed with sp2 when
I try to install I cant seem to get the good key and I've tried a couple!
I tried converting the cd to a retail cd or oem cd using the setup.ini file
but keys never work. I tried copying the oembios from windows\system32
to the i386 cd drive but only find 3 oembios files. Oembios.cat is nowhere to be found.

thanx for your help

There should have been an option to create a recovery cd from the acer program. ALso I believe there is a partition with the recovery option on it.

I have reinstalled xp from an oem cd on my tm8204 but I have now switched back to acer preinstallation... my suggestion is to not install xp by yourself because acer has applied some microsoft unavailable patches to the OS and to the registry already.
One of these pathes is the one for USB2 but there are other win xp files updates and may be other registry changes eg. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896256/

My suggestions is: clean your acer preinstallation and use that.

thanx guys for the constructive replies...
With acer factory default, I think there was about 60 processes running all the time. Thats why I wanted a new install. Seems if I go back to that and wipe out some stuff. I wont be able to get in the low 30's. Is this a reasonable goal to have 30ish processes running?
