Hi folks, I've got a couple of questions here; I have the 'Norton Antivirus' icon sitting on the desktop, does this install the latest version of NAV? Does it have a coutesy 6 month subcription with the acer install? Is it worth it or should I install another 3rd party antivirus? What do use? Thanks for your responses!

Go with the Free version of AVG Antivirus,by Grisoft--works great, and the price is sooo right.

ANYTHING Norton sucks, IMO

I agree, go with AVG. www.free.grisoft.com
Nortons is way to invasive, as is McAffee (sp?)...

Another free one that I have had good luck with is AntiVir. It is very fast and has never let me down. Avast is good also but takes up a little more overhead than Antivir.

I immediately removed the icon and the files it points to on your c drive

and I installed avg free edition which I have been using for over 2 years now.
I am even considering getting the corporate edition for work when our trend contract runs out, the developers of it deserve a medal.

dont forget to get yourself the free version of adaware by lavasoft (dont get any of the dodgy imitations) and scan for spyware on a regular basis.

Good luck and enjoy :)

Actually for my IT clients I use AVG Antivirus and Windows Defender by Microsoft. The two work great together, I've never had a problem one. Best part is all future updates are free for both.

As a side note, the new Windows Defender has a great startup utility it puts in your control panel. Allows you to see what's starting up and the ability to disable or remove it. Great added feature!
