Anyone having problems with this? I have a D-Link DI-614+ wireless router and just last week, I would be able to get at least a week of uptime before ANY disruptions. Then, just the other day, I started having problems connecting to my network.
I've disabled XP zero config. The Proset software is handling the wireless stuff now.
Weird thing is after I reset the lappy, as soon as it gets into windows, it picks up RIGHT AWAY. I'd hate to have to reset every two days though.
Any help or ideas welcome.

Please be aware that Cordless phones that use 2.4ghz frequency can cause frequent interuptions when in use. make sure you use older 900mhz phones or newer 5 ghz phones.

It may be the cordless phone, but I have found that the Proset software plain sucks. Wait, I take that back... it works in certain situations.
I have two Centrino based systems: Dell M60 (workstation-laptop), JVC 7310 (ultra portable-2lb. laptop). Both systems have problems with Proset. I get random signal problems, to the application locking, to blue screens telling me IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. However, once proset starts working, it keeps working. After performing a reinstall, I just installed the Intel drivers without Proset and let widows handle the wireless and it worked well. Although, in certain situations, have Proset has proved more useful. This includes places where there are many different wireless networks, I guess Proset just works better since it doesn't get as easily "confused" as to which network it should be connecting to. Regardless, I would try to remove proset completely and let windows handle the connection. As a last resort, reinstall but do not install proset. Things should start working.

I've read on the Dell forums that you gotta use the Proset software for stable connectivity. Everything's been awesome. It's just the past couple of days that it's been driving me crazy. I'm plugged in right now and have been. Don't really have the time to fiddle with it now.
Thanks for all the help, guys.

How did you go about talking to Dell about this? I'm interested in getting rid of my 2100 too. Seems like I'm having some problems with my connections. $44 for a 1300 sounds very appealing. Thanks.

Is it okay to get a refurb though? Checking the site now. . .
LOL, what's the site? I googled it and there's a bunch. Is there an official one?

I had a problem with my wireless Intel as well and downloaded the firmware update for the Netgear 814 v2...Seemed Netgear had an issue with Centrino and corrected in in a firmware update.....and yes it worked!!!
So if you are using Netgear..well

;) I just went to the parts page on the Dell site for the 8600 and after finding the 1300 I put it in my cart, Dell gave me a discount off the price of 49.00 instantly and then also stated that the shipping would be free ...did not have to ask at all.....
So try it and see..........processed the order and received it in 4 days...

Is the miniPCI under the left side of the palm rest? The bottom of my lappy is so hot, underneath there. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing this?

:bouncy: Yes , It is on the bottom of the left palmrest side of the 8600, just unscrew and open the compartment remove the card and replace with new one just be careful with the 2 connecting wires fasten them gently , the instruction booklet that comes with the card is real simple to follow...as far as the heat issue my palm rest will get a little warm but nothing alarming, but it only does this during intense game play , but my cooling fan kicks in and keeps it under control, also notice a little heat underneath near the RAM, but once again nothing serious............

Thanks dude. Mine is hot. Hot enough to burn hairs if it were summer already and I was wearing shorts. Kinda weird how that is. The whole thing is cool, except for the miniPCI area. My memory is currently at 47C.

:bouncy: Yeah I will admit with shorts on you could singe some hairs, but considering other Laptop brands will give you second and third degree burns or worse....(Hmmmm that song Chestnuts roasting on an open fire comes to mind) OUCH!!!!!!!!
