It depends on where the hinges are actually loose. The 4 mounting screws seldom ever come loose. More than likely the hinges have worn and that's where it's loose. If you're under warranty call Dell and they'll replace the LCD top cover (hinges are part of that assembly) However, go ahead and pop off the keyboard bezel and check those four mounting screws anyway, it wouldn't hurt.

Bah, my screen is kind of "Wobbly". It's not actually loose, if you close it - there's sufficient resistance, but it kind of flops around a degree or two with no resistance at all. I'll glance at the inspiron 6000 service manual to see if this can be fixed. I see two bolts under the screen that could be tightened, but I think that would just make the screen harder to close, and not solve the floppiness issue.

Alright, I fixed my wobbly screen.
Check these instructions for removing the display bezel:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6000/en/sm/display0.htm#wp1020174
Basically, you remove the hinge cover, then take off the six round bumbers and the screws underneath.
Then you gently pry the bezel off, and you have then revealed the screws around the actual display hinges themselves. When you tighten those screws, the problem is solved. The screws that were loose on my i6000 were the ones under the bezel that held the screen to the hinges. Much better!
I presume that you could make the screen's movement stiffer and thus make the unit harder to close and open by tightening the hinge bolts, but I haven't tried that yet.
