Ok so I know a few folks around here have the knowledge to be able to help out with this.

I am putting together a wiki site for newcomers to linux and basic linux audio, primarily the basic linux audio, but the basics of linux becomes important as a result, gotta know the basics to do the fun stuff and all that;)

the site address is linuxaudio.leviathan-avc.com

You will find a few pages already up to give a feeling of the overall feel I would like to give it, I want it to be able to be useable by your average windows user considering linux, but it will be primarily geared towards audio.

If there is anyone with spare time to expand on what is there, at least on the basic linux side with basic commands, why they are important and what various things do, and if anyone here feels comfortable with audio to start tackling that for things like ALSA to let me concentrate on typing things for more advanced stuff like JACK I would appreciate it.

Anyways help is appreciated, thanks;)

And yes I will eventually put on the logo and stuff for that site;)

I can work on teh basic linux side. Commands, terminal, terminology etc. but i dont know too much on audio. I dont know how helpful my input would be, with the basic linux info, since this is an audio driven wiki linux audio page. :cool2:

Basic commands for system administration are welcome, take a look at the modules page to see about the goal I am looking to get, but need it more spread out for more basic commands than just the module ones;)

Essentially the overall goal is for someone that is familiar with something like windows or mac basic system administration to come in and use this to understand the basics of system administration for Linux. I have found a fair amount of audio engineers know their way around a computer pretty well and have at least competancy on their system for basic administration, but only for their own OS, and that can scare them off of linux sometimes.

So things like killall and ps (Well ps -A) and similar commands that the equivalent gets used a LOT on Windows and Mac, basics of how to set up hardware, what config files are and where you can find them, basic filesystem layout(Following the LSB for the moment, no distro specific things for the moment unless clearly labeled and the LSB section is already complete)

More advanced sections on the software installation methods availiable would be nice, for instance it has been so long since i did serious work with RPM based distros I doubt I could even touch RPM much anymore, I use kpackage for that. But also sections for yum, APT, portage, apt-rpm, and all the various alternatives would be nice.

Also description pages of the basic distros out there, such as Ubuntu, Suse, Mandriva, Linspire, etc... and I can cover some of the audio ones or give them a shot since its been a while;)

The more advanced administration for audio I can handle though;)

Again the overall goal is to allow someone not familoair at all with Linux but want to use it for audio to be able to come in and have a decent idea of what they are doing or be able to look up how to do something in fairly basic terms.
