In case anyone's interested, Oblivion runs very nicely on the 8204. I'm running at the auto detect settings, which are 1024X768 with no AA but otherwise high quality. I'm sure there might be some other things turned down as well, but it looks and plays great.

Phenomenal game, and it runs very well on the 8204.

I, for one, quite surprised to see 8204 running Oblivion so well. And with the doubt that my eyes are deceiving me, I installed F.E.A.R. and that, too, runs smooth with everything but volumeric lighting on max.

It's a nice upgrade from my old Twinhead Celeron 1Ghz w/SiS onboard vid card... ;) :D :D

I've noticed, actually, that the framerate outside is only in the low-20's (which actually isn't that bad, considering), but it still plays well with no stutters, etc. I don't even get my typical motion sickness while playing... ;-)

Inside, I get about 40 FPS, which again seems about normal for all but the craziest desktops. Overall, I remain impressed with the performance of the 8204...

Thanks! I'm getting my 8204 in a couple of weeks (once the april price list has made it to my supplier).

My main reason for getting the laptop is gaming, and the main game I'm planning on playing is Oblivion.

I currently run it on a 3.2Ghz, 1GB RAM, radeon 9700pro desktop and it plays OK(ish). hopefully the 8204 will run the same or better.

Anyway, you have put my mind at rest. Happy gaming :D

I think you'll be very pleased... I'm enjoying it immensely, more than I have any game in quite some time.

Can you do me a favour?

Can you set the resolution to 800x600, turn everything to high and 2x anti aliasing?

I'm really interested to see if this will run with at least some kind of anti-aliasing on as it looks a bit bad with none.

I still havent figured out what HDR and Bloom are supposed to do, can you enlighten me?

If I get a chance over the next few days, I'll give it a shot. HDR (and Bloom, to a less realistic extend) duplicate lighting, such as the sun reflecting off a surface as seen from _just_ the right angle (that flaring effect, basically)...

Just install Oblivion last night, very very nice.
Omega Drivers have a low widescreen res just for that game.

Had one problem. Did any one notice a bit of the kings face missing when he was talking to you in the beginning.

A very good tweaking guide was released for Oblivion:

Just for those who are interested.

Yep, very nice guide... Pay particular attention to the section on enabling multithreading support (i.e., to use the dual core) if you have a 5672/8204. I don't know if it's making a performance difference, but I know it's using the processors differently because my fans go like crazy with multithreading enabled.

Regarding the King's face, I didn't get that, but I do lose textures at various random times. Not enough to impact gameplay or enjoyment, and it's probably a driver thing that will be resolved. If, of course, we ATI X1000 users ever get updated drivers....
