Hi Everyone

I have a Acer Travelmate 8006 LMI

It seems to have a slight problem with the sound

When it boots into windows XP, the windows starting music clip sounds distorted, kinda like a record jumping, it also does this on MP3 music files and on sound played on videos in windows media player, (basicly anything that plays music)

I've restored the laptop 3 times and still the problem comes back, I havent tried completely formatting the hard drive (just using the restore cds that come with the notebook) but fully formatting is my next stage but I'm a little worried about doing a "full format" as I've been reading about people having problems using the restore cds after doing that.

I have noticed that it's taking ages to boot, almost a good 2 mins on the xp loading starting screen and everything is acting slow at opening.

Can anyone help me of give me any suggestions please

thanks

Pete

Please can anyone help me with this problem, I've tried doing everything I can, and it's still there, the laptop has become very slow and takes a life time to boot and sometimes comes up with "one of you disks needs to be checked for consistency" on bootup.
anyone any suggestions?

In my experience, people on these forums don't really help with sound problems or older laptop problems. Most people seem to be rich "cutting edge" buyers who own the newest hardware out there.

I have an acer 8104, and my sound died. After months of trying to reboot, reinstall drivers, and restore (and sometimes having it come back) I finally decided to call acer. They told me to send it in, which I did. I hope you have the extended warantee. It's kind of a pain in the ass compared to other companies like dell, who come to your house to fix it, but after about two weeks I got my laptop back. They replaced the sound board, power board, and main board, and it's been working fine ever since.

But now my bluetooth doesn't work. A pain, huh?

Thanks for your reply, I do have the extended warranty, (3 years) and there's about 16 months left on it, so I might give them a ring, do you happen to know if they collect it or will I have to take it back to the place I bought it from?

They'll send a FedEx carrier person to come pick it up. You'll need to box it up yourself. I went to Mail Boxes Etc. and paid $10 for them to bubble wrap the hell out of it for me and box it up as I couldn't find enough at home or work. Definitely worth it if you don't have the supplies, even if just for the peace of mind. There was so much bubble wrap on it that they could have dropped it off the roof of my apartment building and it would have been OK.
