I bought an aspire 5672, so far it's perfect! I was wondering now, how good are the acer tools?? I know a lot of software that claims to speed things up where they actually don't. What about all the 'exciting' empowering tools?

Should I just uninstall everything and use windowsXP 'native' tools???
I'm especially thinking of speedStep. On windows2000 on my old travelmate, I had a small flag in the taskbar to regulate the cpu speed (also dynamic). With ePower, it seems to fix the CPU-speed at a certain value.

What are other users experience? Has anyone deleted the tools yet? What are the pro's / con's ??

Thanks for advice!!

Empowering Technology tools are working fine here. Better than native windows. However, i don't think it really helps with performance. I like the ePower Management and eData Security Management tools better. I'm also using ePerformance, but not sure if it really helps.

New Aspire 5102WLmi user here-- don't really see the need for the tools, anyway, most functions are duplicated in XP, but I do notice that disk defragmenter TAKES FOREVER! Is this some kind of HD overlay problem inherent to Empowering Tech Tools? I tried exiting EmpTechTools, shutting down the antivirus, then rebooting in safe mode, but the disk defrag ran so slow that it took 2 hours to do 14%!!!! This is on a hard drive supposedly only 10% fragmented, brand new! Any ideas out there? Can I safely remove ther Empowering Tech suite?

I have installed fresh Windows XP on my machine, adding only required drivers. None of Acer tools are installed and everything works fine. To control processor clock I undervolted it using Notebook Hardware Control - it is perfect.
