Hey I have an Acer Aspire 1672.

Its warranty expires the end of next month. My question is, at this point, if say the motherboard is dead do they replace the whole unit or just the defective parts?

Second question, how much would have to be 'defective' for the unit to be replaced?

Thirdly, who wants to help me break this laptop? But it cant appear malicious so basically I could get a new laptop/new parts. I dont mind losing it for a while to be sent off for repair because I dont use it really.

They just replace the defective parts because its cheaper, unless its the screen which they might turn arround and say you have to pay for part of it. And I agree with PorschePRH, way to go. Reject

LMAO!

I hate Acer, I got this laptop on a deal so I took it. Sorry I offended you and your precious Acer.

I've already had the hard drive replaced on this thing. Cost them about $350.

And your explanation means what, exactly? The offense taken has nothing to do with Acer. You could rip off any vendor, and there would be those offended by it. Heck, there are some of us who are offended by the dishonesty itself, let alone the fact that it drives up costs for all of us.

Well, when you have to deal with manufacteurs day in and day out, you tend to care less about what manufacteurs 'feelings'. Defectives doesnt raise costs. In fact, if you look at the cost of computer hardware, they get lower all the time, not higher. The only product out there that still lives by the standard of inflating prices is the automotive industry.

After so long, I simply don't care. If repairs/defectives raise the retail price of such machines, then at this price point this year for this laptop, wouldnt have such a robust replacement.

Forget about it guys. I didnt know I was talking to such Christians. But hey, its a good thing you're still gulible. Seems that gulbile is so similar to honest.

Hey I try.

I bought an Acer. Acer has to do its job. Acer's job is standing behind their product. Maybe if I liked them, I wouldnt wrong them, but its Acer.

Pathetic. If any thread deserves deleting, this one is it.

Agreed. You are a waste of time.

Actually, you are a waste of time. Your disparaging remarks contribute nothing to the overall purpose of this forum. Your lack of morality, coupled with your cavalier attitude reminds us why America and the world at large are in such a sorry state. Thank you for your enlightened comments and grand contribution to our knowledge base.

:wow: I'm proud that I'm not an American.

And I'm glad that my views disturb you.

The best part is that you assume I'm an American. What does this say about you? Did you ever think that this has been a great laugh for me?

Clearly this is beyond the original topic of the post. I think we've all learned something today. If you ever, EVER post ideas on a forums of this nature, basically, if you fit the character I've portrayed before you, watch out. You may be considered an American.

Just some advice, don't ever work retail. It may be too horrifying for you to handle.

Sad when fraud is okay with people! Hope Acer charges you money for wasting their time.

I just hope you aren't Canadian.

It's easy buddy, just open up your notebook, throw some inflammabe liquid, set it on fire for a few seconds than pour water on it.

Than you send to acer asking for a new one!

So let's see... you purchase a laptop, based on a deal, with a warranty... you've already had a warranty claim for a HD, and they covered the costs of replacing that HD, just as you would expect their warranty and support to do.
Then you decide that this is not enough, you have a perfectly good working laptop, but you want something newer/better and not have to pay for it...

And then you wonder why people react negatively to this idea...

I honestly thought this was a joke at first. Besides the fact that what you're asking us to help you do is immoral and unethical, the machine works. You've already seen that a HD can break, even on a newer machine. If you managed to get the entire thing replaced, you could end up with more problems than what you've currently got (your personal ones).

Acer is just another computer manufacturer, and has similar faults to other manufacturers... Dell included. But they do not deserved to be cheated by idiots who want stuff for free.

And we have a right to our opinion, which is that others should see you as an example... of what not to do. If you have an older notebook and its warranty is going to be up in a month, then start looking for a new notebook. Period. Trying to "cheat the system" is just a self-serving act of an idiot, whether or not he is Christian.

Yes, you might lock this thread. But I'd leave it up so others can see it.

The fact that it's bringing out hateful comments, even from myself, is not a good sign of its ability to continue as an enlightening topic.

Not only is doing that wrong and immoral... it's also illegal. When you enter into a warranty contract it is legally binding between not only the Mfg but the consumer. No warranties cover willful damage and lieing about is fraud. Please keep this off our boards.
