Hi,

just wondering if anybody has the new Acer TravelMate 2423WXMi and is willing to share their experience with it or comment on its positive and negative points. I was thinking of buying one but I really am not sure after reading about various problems with acer laptops including the support.

regards,
Dermo

I've had mine for a good month now, no problems whatsoever.

The acer ePerformance utilities work pretty well, especially the turbo startup and turbo shutdown (cuts down boot up and shutdown times very nicely), although you might want to upgrade the ram seeing as some places sell it with only 256mb. I haven't talked to tech support yet, so I can't help you there.

Plays some old school games quite well, like warcraft III and such. Playing CS gives about 50fps w/o widescreen mode at 1024 X 768 (but I have 1.2gb of ram). Very good for everyday use, and with the power management utilities from acer, the battery can last about 3.2 hours doing simple tasks like web browsing and word processing.

Speakers aren't too great, but that's expected from a laptop. There are actually scroll zones on the touchpad, even though there are no indicators for it. Configuring the touchpad is quite easy, I have one corner acting as a middle-click, one as a right click, and the two bottom corners acting as back/forward buttons on explorer. Not sure if that's standard with most laptops, but hey it's pretty cool.:mmm:

So far so good, I'd recommend it if you can get it somewhere for >$600 (not including taxes and shipping).:Ned:
