Hi guys,
I want to buy an Acer Aspire ,model 5672 (mnfg code:LX.AA706.003,
with 2Gb of RAM/120Gb hdd) from US, but acer site is not clear about the memory speed. Some e-shops sites state that the system memory is runnning at 533Mhz; others at 667Mhz. The uk acer site also is unclear about this, they state that the memory is 533/667 :) .
So my question is for you guys that already have an AS5672 : what's the actual speed of the memory on your system. Because if it is 533, I am thinking to buy a cheaper as5672 model with 1Gb ram and XP-Home ( I use Linux ussualy, besides when I am playing games so why to pay 80$ more) and after that to buy separatly 2Gb@667Mhz somewhere in the future. What do you think?
In linux you can check the memory using the dmidecode program (look in the output for Memory Device and then for the Speed field). On some systems it shows Speed:unknow. I hope this is not the case :D. Also knowing the type would do it for me (PC5300 vs 5200 etc)

Flexibility in a laptop is a good think. I saw a previous thread talking about upgrading the dual-core CPU from 1.66 to a more powerfull one . I also want to upgrade more easily my future laptop, instead of buying a new one.
Another question: does this acer5672 has an MXM (Mobile PCI Express Module) ? This way in one year I could also change the video card with a more powerfull one. I searched the net for it but it this acer didn't seem to support it, even if ati makes mobile x1400 mxms cards.
Thank you.

Memory in my Compusa 2GB/120GB model is 533MHz, PC4300 CAS4 (ouch) but I read that when using dual channel, which all ddr2 is, two 533 sticks isnt any slower than two 667 sticks. regardless, the price you'll pay for 2 1GB sticks of memory is much more than the difference in cost of the two models.

ati do make mxm cards but it appears so far (without a big dissasembly of my machine) that the card is on the motherboard, meaning an alternative motherboard should be fitted if a better graphics card is required

I need to see if more than one board fits this chassis
