Hi folks,
I'm new around here but have been working with Computer systems since the early 80's. I have just inherited through work an Acer Travelmate 240 and have been happy to migrate to it from a clunky Dell Inspiron 1100 (also supplied by work) - especially since I am an Acer fan, having previously owned an Extensa 355 and my 5 year old son is now the proud owner of my hand-me-down Travelmate 600TER - still going strong with some spare parts (screen bezel and backlight inverter) from another 600 that gave up a few years back.
Anyway, to business - here's some questions for those more familiar with the 240 series:
1) Can wifi be retrofitted? I have a carbus card in the side but integrated wifi would be more convenient. Ditto for bluetoooth.
2) When the CPU cooling fan is on its lowest setting it whistles! Is this a known problem and is there a quick fix or can the fan be replaced.
3) If it's worth opening up the laptop to check the CPU fan, is this done by removing the button strip above the keyboard and, if so, how is this done - on previous models you just levered it up, but is it screwed in place on the 240?
4) The battery shows a 99% charge all the time but lasts around 45 seconds. It's probably reached the end of its life, but can anyone just let me know if there is be a reconditioning or battery life adjustment trick that's worth trying before I order a new battery pack.
5) Can the CD writer / DVD reader be replaced with a CD/DVD writer?
