Im in the market for a mobile multimedia notebook. I've been doing some shopping for about the past 2 months, watching prices and looking at different models. Well, really I've just been trying to save money. Anyway, I have pretty much been convinced that the Gateway M505XL was gonna be my future laptop as soon as I got my paycheck for this month. Well i just came across this feature-filled Aspire 2000 from Acer. Im not really familiar with Acer products and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions or reccomendations on either on of these systems. Ive spent a lot of time on the M505 thread reading some valuable posts. Anyway, if you guys have opinions or experiences with either of these sweet notebooks I would appreciate your responses!! THANKS!

I'd take the M505 over Aspire 2000 for a few reasons:
1. R9600 > R9200
2. Better Multimedia capabilities of the M505XL
3. Localized support from Gateway stores

I do not have personal experience with this Acer model. Historically, Acer laptops have been made in Acer factories and have not had a very good reputation for quality and reliability. Lately, Wistron has been making some of Acer's laptops for them. I think these laptops are likely to be well built, but I don't know which company makes the Aspire 2000.

Xsterminator hit the nail on the head. If you're budgeted to get the Gateway then go for it. It's a great price and you do get quite a bit for the money.

When will gateway put a 1.6Ghz PM and a 5400RPM drive in the M505XL? Or at least make a M505CS. Come on Gateway, stop regurgitating and upgrade your components.
