I've just purchased the Acer Aspire 2000 for various reasons, basically because it was the lowest priced machine for all of the features that I wanted. Centrino 1.6/good battery life, DVD burner, widescreen, reasonable weight, etc. But there's one problem - it doesn't seem that there are that many cases out there for a laptop of this size.

The dimensions are 14.2" wide, 10.7" deep, and 1.3" in height. Either cases are too wide, not wide enough, etc. Plus, the laptop is very thin (1.3"), and a lot of cases have 2" - 3" interiors, so I'm worried that it might flop around a bit. Other than CompUSA, I have no place to look at cases, so no chance to try before I buy.

I am looking for a shoulder bag - similar to the classic black Targus design with compartments for A/C adaptors, papers, and so on. (The Targus bags seem to be too small or too big). I really liked the Tumi messenger bag design, but it doesn't zip closed on the top - only has a flap. I can spend $200, and would be interested in hearing what other people with similar-sized laptops use.

Wish I could help you, but... I can't. Could you write up a quick review on the aspire 2000 (I know, Im so selfish ;) )?

I was planning on writing up a review, but I need a few weeks to do so. I don't like reviewing things right away - first impressions for me typically change. Also, I'll be out of town for a bit over the next few weeks.

But, upon return, I'll put something up in a separate post. No prob! :)

I'm interested in this notebook as well but I cant find a reliable place to purchase it from. Can I ask where you got yours from? Thanks.

Here is Acer's list of online retailers from their website. I got mine from buy.com, but it looks like they're out of stock right now. (They have the best price too, with no tax and free shipping.) I have also purchased things from CDW and Insight, and there's a Microcenter not far from where I live. I would consider all of those places to be reputable.

Thanks for the x1000forums link. I think I found a bag. The Endo 17 here: http://www.spireusa.com./products/ES3.html looks to fit the bill. It doesn't have a zippered top like I originally wanted, but it does have a nice interior pouch for the laptop that velcros shut, and then goes inside the messenger bag.
