Has anyone loaded the latest beta of Vista on their 5672? Any driver problems?
I'm getting ready to wipe the OS and thought I'd dual boot Pro and Vista to play around with it.
Loading Vista shouldn't mess with the PQservice partition, right?

it might, i know vista beta, uses a differ bootloader then ntldr (xp) if you are gonna install xp pro, you should do a complete wipe of all partitions, the pqservice parition is on the beginning of the hdd, which does have a effect on calling up data on your hdd, just image the pqservice partition and do a full wipe, i did it last just the other night, and loaded all the correct drivers, and this thing reall feels like a dual core machine now, like you feel the power, before i was getting faster results from my athlon xp 2400+ 1gb ram, which wasn't acceptable i felt like i had bought core duo hype but once you set this up right, it's a big differenence...........but yea, in order to get the vista installation off, you will have to rebuild your master boot record, which if you do, might conflict with the pqservice, since it has it's own mbr just something to consider..:jumpforjo

i have beta2 vista 32bit on my ferrari 4005 laptop and it works like a charm. although if you dont have 1gig ram installed already, you wont have a good vista experience. i say 1.5gig is atleast needed for a fluid smooth operation

thanks. I'm not worried about the bootloader for the PQ partition, because I can boot off the backup dvd I created on purchase. I don't think the backup CD has all the files required to load the OS though.
I had pro on here, but it was DO version and WGA prevented me from dl'g the USB dual core fix. My battery was draining bigtime from the usb laptop cooler, so I had to revert to home temporarily. I have the patch backed up now, so I plan give it another whirl. With a 120 gig HD, I have plenty of room for dual/triple boot options.
I have the 2 gig version of this laptop, so I'm good on ram.
corrado85, are there any new accessible tech features in vista, or is it more crippled than XP?

I put Vista on my 5672 w x1400. It runs Aero fine. Many driver problems most notably the touchpad (you can't access virtual scrolling settings) and realtek ac97 audio.
If you do try it, tou will likely need the realtek beta "1" driver as their beta 2 driver didn't take on mine. Get the touchpad driver for XP from Synaptics and you will have touchpad usability but not the ability to adjust many settings. You should also install the latest XP intel chipset drivers (the correct SATA driver appeared in device manager after I installed it).
In reality, this Vista beta is not ready for primetime because of the driver issues. There is an interim release due out this week but it likely won't address our driver issues and of course there is no assurance that Acer (with their partners) will come up with Vista drivers for our hardware.
Vista security is a genuine PITA. I repartioned my drive back to 50-50 and installed Vista as a dual boot set-up. I only run it when I feel like trying to get something working on it. Other than that, still XP for the main chores. Is it worth the eye candy? I'm not convinced.
Good luck
Quick Follow up. I lied. I didn't repartition 50-50. I left the FAT hidden partition alone so I actually have 3 partitions. So far, Vista multiboot hasn't inteferred with anything. I can still see the hidden partition and I boot into XP or Vista fine.

appreciate the feedback GMK. I have 3 partitions on here also, so I can load the OS on D or E. Good to hear that the video supports all features.
I'm with you on the eye candy. My real interest is to see if there are any handy new tech features, or if they idiot proofed it into unusability.

well get ready to have the screen dim and you have to give access to almost every little thing, from installing or uninstalling or loading a system task, or installing a driver, and there isn't a way to disable it, or just do it once.. that was one the largest turn off's when i beta tested it, but it seems to be more a lack of driver support,

Hi Kinzakracker
there is a way to diable this feature, click on start control panel, user accounts then change security settings, all you do then is is turn of UAC (user account control)
hope this helps

are you talking about data execution prevention? I noticed it on XP after an upgrade. PITA until I changed the settings.
