I just purchased a 8600 and it should be here in a week. I am pretty excited since this is my first notebook. I did not get the internal bluetooth card and was wondering if you could purchase something like that later on? Also if I do get something like that would it allow me to use a bluetooth mouse without having to plug an adaptor into the USB slot. Also I wanted to know if upgrading from 512MB of memory to 1024 will make the system run quicker?
Everyone in here has been really helpful I appriciate all the words of advice?

@Bluetooth:
No, you cannot add that later, at least not internally, only via USB.
@RAM:
In my ipinion 512 MB of RAM is not enough for WinXP. I am always going for 1GB of RAM and I have to say it is really worth it, and not only in windows.
For example. The Farcry Demo loads twice as fast with 1GB of RAM.
@Bluetooth Mouse:
Well, I cannot answer that. I have the internal bluetooth modul but nothing to connect it with so I never tried the modul. Have to wait till I find something that I can test it with.
Hope I could help

I disagree, You can buy a trumobile 300 bluetooth card on ebay for like 20 bucks or online resellers and install it yourself.
link to dell's 8600 service manual for bluetooth card (http://docs.us.dell.com/docs/systems/ins8500/en/sm/blue.htm#1000550)
2 bluetooth mice i find impressive.
logitech mx900 - gaming and scanning rate
bluetake bt500 - size.. it's tiny
hope this helps lgensler

1 gig will make a diff, however if you have two stick of 256mb then you will have to buy two new sticks of 512 at a cost of $200 or so. I have a gig of Kingmax and love it.
I also have the internal bluetooth from dell and have the MX900 mouse. It is a great mouse very little lag, very responsive. Only use the dongle to charge. Have taken the mouse and laptop on a two day trip without the dongle and it lasted without a prob.

Yes you can add the internal bluetooth card at any time. About $29.90 from Dell and takes less than 5 minutes to install ..
So far the mice I've seen that work with the internal bluetooth card is the MS bluetooth mouse, Logitech MX900 bluetooth mouse and the Bluetake BT500 bluetooth mouse.

Don't know :scratch: ..
I never monitored it .. For me it runs fine and doesn't lock up or have any other problems so there has never been a reason to monitor the temp .. To me the people that freak over a degree or two are idiots but thats just my opinion ..
The only time I've really ever looked at temps on my computer is if its having problems.
I'd check it but my son has that laptop with him down in Arizona right now and won't be back till August so I'm no help for you there. Sorry.
According to reports on the official Dell forum, 5650 reaches 100 degrees Celsius and then throttles down.

well thanks for ur insight planet-ed and im from sahuarita, az, id be in greece if i could but owell.
and kck when my 8500 hits 100 with that card it doesnt throttle down it shutsdown :tear: so im modding it, i just wanted to know if the 8600's had probs with them, thanks though
niTz
My reply concerned I8600, since this was clear from the context. But yes, for I8500, 5650 typically requires the mod you are about to perform.

my only worry is that because of the cpu hat from my 2.6 p4m that the card will still reach 100c
niTz
Well, I guess you won't know until you try. Still, according to the I8500 users' reports, the mod might work well for you, if you use a suitable copper plate, etc.

yea i bought the copper plate that they list im cutting it tommorow, but i have noticed some thing wierd when i set the visulation in win media player to 1920 X 1200 and set the buffer to 512 and make it fill screen it turns all red instead of a black back ground and the vis itself looks all physicadelic im using pieter's 56.72 driver
Could be just the driver, or perhaps MS has decided to change the background color. I have no clue, since I'm not using WMP.
