Hi everyone,
I just recieved my 8204, and so far I don't seem to have any of the problems described by users having this laptop.(Build date 4/06). However, I created the 5 backup CD's it tells you to and did a clean install of XP. Now, when I put the disks in, all but the first disk consist of a .dat file that is titled RCD#, the # being the disk number, 2-5. The problem is that I don't have a program that can run .dat files. Can anyone help me out here? Also, scrolling one internet is not a smooth action like it is on most computers. It is hard to explain, but it's almost as if the screen is being refreshed, and, I can see this refreshing bar travelling up the screen. Is this a windows setting? If it is, how do I change it to regular scrolling? Sorry for the noob questions guys. Other than these problems, I'm loving the computer.

Thanks,
Johnny

Not sure about this (I used the DVD backup method) but if you do plan to do a reinstall, putting in the first CD is enough, it will tell you to insert CD2-5 as you progress (as if you were installing a multi-cd game).

For scrolling, is it with the scroll wheel of a mouse?

Hi,
This is scrolling with the touchpad and mouse, as in scrolling through windows and not in a game. That backing is very odd, as there were no instructions on the first CD, it was just a bunch of programs. I got gravisense and enet manager working, but signalup and gridvista still don't work.

Thanks,
Johnny

If your page refreshes really slow in Internet Explorer or when loading the start menu, it could be your video card driver.

Hi guys,
Does anyone have a copy of the original graphics card driver that the computer comes with? I lost that when I reformatted my hard drive, and for some reason my recovery CD's don't work. When I go to the Catalyst control panel, it says no ATi driver is installed. So I go to the ATi site and download their v 6.6 driver. However, it fails to install, saying that I need a VGA driver installed first. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks,
Johnny

You can obtain all the drivers at ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/notebook/travelmate_8200/

Thanks for the help guys. The factory ones didn't work so I went to omega and their drivers work beautifully.

Thanks,
Johnny
