#1)NTFS
#2) its a maddog enclosure with an 80gig western digital hard drive inside it
#3)I have formatted it several times on several different computers when i do it on my pc it shows up as 80gig and then when i plug it into here it only recognizes the 54.1gigs for some reason

might want to take a look at ur usb controller/driver on ur laptop. test it with another external usb first, just to be sure.

can u remove the hdd from the case and note the part number on the hard drive itself?
something is not quite right, either ur casing driver is forcing xp to only see <60gb (?) or u have 2 partitions on the 80gigo drive
cheers ...

u wouldn't
since u have issue with both on ur laptop and ur pc, and u r sure that u have 80gigo before, i can only recommend that u look into mad dog web site for driver/support. or try to look at the drive under linux.

maddog doesnt have any drivers for their external enclosures and the hdd is definately an 80gig i have no idea what else to do at this point..
http://members.tripod.com/~diligent/harddisk.htm#ranish
has some tools/utilities for hdd management, it might help to look at ur drive from another app
or acronis/ghost apps - may be they could read the drive at a different angle.
linux - have u tried that? just to hook up to a linux system and see?
cheers ...
