Hi, ubuntu forgets my wpa password every time. It's a pain in the --- to set it up after every login. I even enabled root login and other things to set it up. Every time I restart the computer my internet is lost.

Using the wireless network manager on first try to connection it fails, then on second time it goes in (at least with 6.06) I know updated to edgy to see if solved. Now the wireless manager doesnt work any more. The network settings need several tries to login.

How can I solve it? I could go back to dapper - edgy is unusable at the moment anyhow (to many packages missing - kernel installed via aptitude gets kernel panic on boot.......), sound not working anymore, tv-card still unsupported, GPS wont connect..... Driver support under linux just outrightly sucks (saying its not linux fault doens't help me)

I even tried to uninstall gnome, install kubuntu, same problem, uninstall kubuntu and reinstall gnome.

first of all it sounds like your system is a complete mess, my advice is to start fresh. i personally stopped using the gui wifi manager b/c i noticed it compromised my connection, so now i do all my wireless bidding through command prompt (i dont use encription so makes my life easier).

and i have no idea how to solve your issue.

and for now do stay away from Edgy, when its in Flight (at least 3 or 4) then feel free to give it a try, but for now its under heavly development (only 1 month in) so give it time.

Edgy has what... 5 months before it's release? Not a good release to use if you want any level of stability.

All I had to do was install the NetworkManager applet and it automatically saved my WPA password.

It does store it in a local secure password file, which I had to make a password for, but it's easier to remember that one password than it is to remember multiple WPA passwords.

I just installed edgy, because I hoped for support for my tv-card. (TM6000 chipset and XC3028 tuner - both very very new - ADS Tech Dual TV USB) and was annoyed by the WPA password issue.

The problem is that I already have network manager installed. Thats exactly whats forgetting my password. Seems I really have to start with a reformat.
The Wireless network manager on the other hand saves the password but needs two tries to connect.

Well I'm back to 6.06
actually formatted installed xubuntu and then afterwards ubuntu desktop. Seems to be much faster than directly installing ubuntu. (Bootup time from power on to Firefox open is 35-36 seconds with autologin and custom compiled 2.6.17-beyond1.1 kernel)
