Well ya looking for the best most compatable linux distro for my new hp dv8000t. I have done serchess on net and such and all I coud find was fadora core 5. I have mostaly used mandrake myself as I find it runs just about anything that was designed for say red hat and other distros ment forserver use. But ya any info would be great.

If it works on one distro, it will work on all.

Really your question is about hardware detection, and which one detects the hardware the best most likely.

In which case the semi-standard answer around these parts is Ubuntu, but that doesnt nessecarily mean it will work flawlessly, or that others wont work, just it tends to have the best track record for MOST of us here.

yeah....seablade got it pretty much. Ubuntu is a good starter point, if it works, great, if it doesn't work, you'll have some work to do. Downside is that if i can remember HP uses broadcom chips for their wifi cards, and the broadcom driver is still pre-alpha under heavy development whatnot not recommended etc etc, so you'll have to use ndiswrapper, which is NOT included by default with ubuntu, but can easily be installed through apt-get or if you use automatix. ati or nvidia is easy to configure so dont worry about that....the rest should be pretty standard. great thing about ubuntu is that the install cd is also a live cd, so you can test it before you install it.
