I bought my i8600 system about 4 weeks ago, and after 2 weeks, my son spilled about 10 drops of water right next to print screen key... I couldn't turn my computer on or whatever. It totally died on me. At first, I did have no idea why I couldn't turn my computer on because my son did not tell me about it. I called Dell regarding my computer and they asked me few questions and told me that they will send me new system. Now I got my new system and my son confessed me about his deed. I gotta send my broken system to Dell. Should I tell Dell what happened? or just send them? I only have limited warranty so I know that spilling will not be covered. I don't want to pay another $1600. Will they be able to find that the problem came from spilling? I am so frustrated... Please help. :mmm:
Thank you

just send it back.
if they ask you a direct question like:
"did YOU spill water on the system"
you can say no, and not be lying"
anyways, you have nothing to lose.

If it was ONLY 10 drops of water they most likely will not know .. Its not like coffee or soda that will leave a sticky residue ..
I've seen this happen several times at work where someone knocked their coffee cup over and it splashed onto the keyboard .. Because of that and my 13 yeaqr old son is one reason I opted for the complete care warranty .. Things like this are covered ...
Most people say the complete care isn't needed (and most times thats true) but after watching all the people cry on the Axim site (Dells PDA based forum) I can't help but laugh at the people when they cry because Dell won't fix their cracked screen because they dropped it .. For me personnaly I felt the small cost of the extra warranty was jutified .. Since I have my teenage son and the fact that I carry mine around with me every day so the chances of something happening are high .. Now if it was just me and I rarely moved it then I might have reconsidered but still probably would have gotten it esp after watching people loose their investment because of some small accident ...

they wont even bother to check the system - it will end up in the "rejects" pile where they will scavenge it for parts several weeks later.
AFAIK

i doubt they will find out most likely the worst case scenario is they will let you keep the new system and charge you for the parts they coudlnt salvage :)
