I purchased an identical laptop to you yesturday and had a 40gb hdd but sliced into 3,
Now i didnt risk it but i removed the 2 partitions and left the 3rd one called "-:" intact as it was only 3.8gb anyway.
Right well the score here is basically i cant use my usb hdd bcus its NTFS and my system was Fat 32 so i risked it and reloaded my OS,
Using the download files above you are able to completely re-install ALL of the Acer Software including the NTI CD Maker (Which is shite anyway).

I can´t make sense out of this: You say you can´t use your USB HDD because it´s NTFS? What OS did you use: Windows XP, DOS, Linux?
Then you "reloaded" your OS. Did you make a fresh installation or did you just reboot?
@Bugmenot: Have you already tried to defrag the partition? Did you use BootVis [0]? Normally you shouldn´t experience any performance loss after a conversion to ntfs. Although I did experience it, but this was years ago and probably caused by defective hardware.
If this doesn´t work, you should consider GavCoupes solution: Download the acer software you want, and make a clean reinstallation.

Sorry if it was unclear...
My USB HDD is NTFS
My TravelMate come as 3 patitions
a. 3.8gb = Backup (Hidden)
b. 18gb = ACER (Master)
c. 15gb = ACERDATA (Slave)
i removed "b & c" and formated using XP Home Ed (that was supplied with one of my other systems and used the acer xp home key) to NTFS and loaded windows myself, the above links give all the required software.
My laptop was loaded with XP Home & SP2 when i got it, When i scubbed it i used my own XP Home CD and SP2 so i didnt have all the Acer Crap but figured i need it to power the switches & Acer PMICIA slot so downloaded at the links above.
Hope this simplifies it abit more for you guys :)

I used partion magic on my Aspire 3624 to convert from Fat32 to NTFS and it worked flawlessly.

No, I just ran the program, and it rebooted and did the conversion, and all was well. The process was quick and painless.

Merging the partions took a long time for me, but actually going from fat32 to ntfs didn't take long at all.
