Ok so it came with one gig as most will know, that gig is two 512 modules at 533.

I'm going to pull that out and replace wth two 1 gig sticks for 2 gigs total. The laptop will accept the RAM at 533 or 667 which will match FSB and has much wider bandwidth but the latency timings suck on 667.

Has anybody actually benchmarked the 553 vs. the 667?
The price diference isn't worth thinking about but would like to know I have the higher performance option that I will never notice in real life:)

I didn't actually swap modules, but i pondered the same thing, and came to the idea, that given the STANDARD timings for the ram (4/4/4/10 @ 533 vs. 5/5/5/12 @ 667), both are just about the same speed. Now, if you can find lower timings on the 667, it would be worth it (but expensive).

miniscule edge to 667 it seems, sounds faster so why not?

Make sure you get good quality ram like Corsair, Kingston etc.

Above is good buy and what I use though the price is much lower than
when I bought mine 3 months.:(

I had bought some no name stuff earlier from Drive Solutions. At time it was cheaper than brand name stuff.

http://www.drivesolutions.com/cgi-bin/shop/memstore.cgi?command=features&kind=memory&pos=0&type=Memory

It failed memtest with many errors.
A quick call to Drive Solutions and they offered to replace, refund or credit.
I chose to credit towards a new Seagate Momentus 5400 HDD. Even swap.
They offered to send new drive 2nd day air before I shipped my bad
memory back!! No strings attached. They issued a RMA and told me to take my time shipping memory back. Two days later new drive arrived. Great
service. Although I won't buy memory from Drive Solutions their HDD's
are well known brand names. I would recomend them for HDD needs.:mmm:

A source of hard to get parts for Acer lappys, and recomended by an Acer
Tech on phone is Capital Data, Inc. Call em at their (800) number.

I needed a drive cage (caddy?) for the extra drive I bought (I have my XP
install and Linux dual boot imaged to the spare drive). In the event of disaster
all I need do is swap out drives and I am back in business. The were able to
locate and send me one in less than a week. They are located in Lansing, Mich.
about 1.5 hours from me so they are physically handy to me to boot.
