Hi

Just got my new M1710 and installed Unreal Tournament.

The game runs but when running around and shooting the game just keeps stuttering jumping ahead 100 frames or so all the time.

I had the same issue with it on my old Inspiron 8600 but then I just switched from (Laptop) to (Desktop) i the powersaving option and the problem was gone but no matter what I do on my M1710 I still have the problem.

This have something to do with the processor speed on a Laptop and I have no idea how to solv this !?!?

Anyone got any good advise ??

Install RMclock and see if you can't force the CPU back to normal rates...
I have RMclock on my website (see sig)

Did you format your drive? If so are you sure you have all your chipset drivers and such installed? After I formatted my E1705 yesterday the CPU would randomly downclock to 997MHz. Once I reinstalled everything it went back to normal speeds.

I have no problems on my m170. Are you sure its not lag? Cpu not properly clocking up could also be a problem.

All good suggestions, check the above out ;)

*Ahem*

Now i have the same prblem, and im probably a newb, but why is my "CPU Clock" at 999mhz?

I have a 1.8 ghz T2400...

If anyone could post (some of) the settings that would be the best settings... that would be sweet..

Intel chips use speedstep (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speedstep), a downclocking of voltage and frequency when idle to save power and heat. Run some task and watch it go back up to 1.8. No need to do anything, this is normal.

Trust me, my GF has a Celeron-based notebook and it does not have speedstep, and the sumbitch will heat up a room overnight.

If you want your processor to always run at full speed then set your Power Scheme to 'Always On' under Power Options in the Control Panel.

I have UT GOTY and I have been running it for 2 years on my Gen1 with no problems... I will test it on this one later.

First I would like to thank you all for the help in this thread !

Secondly I would like to say that I solved the problem by disabling the (Dual Core) .

I rememberd that I was reading some place that Dual Core processors are in the beginning phase of the development and that they are not 100% synced which means that old applications and games can have a problem with this.

So if you are running an old app or game that acts strange try to disable the second cpu.

sorry for my bad english and thanks for the help.

Smyken I have the same problem as you. When I try to play Unreal Tournament on my E1705 I get a good frame rate but the game speed is super slow. UT2k4 runs fine but old school UT just doesnt run right. I have tried running UT and then setting the Affinity manually and turning off proc 1 and it did nothing so I turned proc 1 back on and then turned off proc 0 and still didnt work. I have also tried setting the power scheme to "always on" and that didnt work either. I dont know what else to do. What exactly did you do to get it working?

/what McFly said.

How do you disable the dual core function?

I have an Inspi 6000 w/ an X300 running on MCE... no dual core to be concerned with. I have the same trouble --> the only way to explain it is the game does not stay in sync. It runs ahead (the video you see on the screen) and then jumps back (to the correct position. Unplayable. The only way I can get it to run at all is in software mode. I've swapped video drivers to no avail. I've even installed XP Pro on a different hdd and experience the same issues.

easy fix: set cpu affinity so the program only uses one core (older programs may have issues with muilt core/cpu systems, sync / framerate issues)

there are lots of programs that will do this, but i perfer this one because it simply and permanently patches the exe to use just one core. works great for unreal games (I love unreal tourny, looks fantastic @ 1920x1200 16AF 8SSAA)

Indeed UT does look quite nice at 1920 X 1200

toy around with vsync or sound hardware acceleration imo
x300 jumping ahead...interesting

This sounds like a problem with the CPU Speed Stepping, set your CPU to it's full clock then try running UT again. I will also mention that it's not a good idea to start the game in battery mode then plugging it in, you'll get the same effects.

Also get the latest D3D and/or OGL drivers and use them.

Skillz,

I had installed the latest D3D drivers and had latest OpenGL driver from cwdohnal. But you made the call on speed stepping. I used a tool for force cpu speed to max and then ran UT in D3D... That was the ticket! Good call and thanks for responding to this thread.

Not a problem, I still play Unreal Tournament occasionally as well. What game type do you play?
