ever since i reinstalled my OS the battery power on my laptop has been horrendous. i ordered the extended longer life battery with my dell inspiron 6000 and i only get an hour and 15 mins of battery life? that is ridiculous. it seems like i have it unplugged for 10 minutes and i get a 50% battery power warning notice...

what could be causing this, or is this normal?

If you push the battery indicator LED button on the battery itself (say, when it's out of the laptop), does it give the same result as what windows says? For example, 50%?

I am trying to find a solution to the exact same problem. it also was after a reinstall actually it was a sytem restore back to factory defaults.

Is the battery Lithium-ion and if so is it already 2-3 years old (from date of manufacture...NOT from date of purchase)?

If so, the battery has most likely reached the end of its life.

One of the downsides to Li-ion battery technology is the unfortunately short lifespan regardless if the battery is used heavily or has been sitting unused on a shelf in the factory original packaging since new--IOW, it's going to die within about 2-3 years.

well...it is a LI-ION battery and the computer itself is about 1 year old...however im not sure of the date of manufacture.

also...how do i check the LED lights. i see them, but am unsure of how to check them.

There should be a button right next the the lights (on one end of the string of LEDs). This is one of those flexible-plastic-cover buttons, and looks pretty much like the rest of the battery.

Do you also have the model with dedicated graphics? this card can eat thru your battery life if you dont have the ATI powerplay settings set for battery optimized play. Also having the notebook set to Always on state can eat thru your battery as well so ensure you have Portable or Laptop mode set in the power settings.
