My girlfriends SD card slot recently stopped working on her inspiron 6000. I have no Idea what could be the matter with it. When a card is inserted, it makes a beep like windows is trying to read it, but then nothing else happens. Any Ideas? Also, I'm planning on upgrading my XPS M170's ram soon to 2 gig soon. Will the ram that is in my XPS work in her inspiron 6000 (which sill bump her from 512 to 1 gig)?

A couple of questions....

Did the SD card work before, and just suddenly stop working?
Do you have Service Pack 2 installed?
Have you tried another SD card?

As far as the RAM goes, just try and put it in and if it works good, if not buy some diff ram.

Me and my g/f were both using our laptops. She wanted me to check out some pics, so she ejected her SD card, and passed i over. After I was done with it, I ejected it and passed it back to her. Then it just wouldn't work. Wouldn't even make a beep. I tried a couple different SD cards, and none worked. A couple days later, we tried again, and this time windows made a noise like its trying to read it, but then nothing else happens.

Well, sounds like the SD Card reader is just plain bad. If you're under warranty call Dell....if not, you're going to have to buy a motherboard.

Yeah, its still under warrenty. I'll give dell a call soon. When I bought the laptop for my g/f, i purchased the cheaper mail in service to save some cash (which is why I was posting here for some answers :mmm: ). The only problem will be trying to pry it away from her for a week (she's addicted to the thing)
