Greetings!

My partner has a Dell Inspiron 510M (bought in the UK) that is old enough to be out of warranty and the keyboard is falling apart. Unfortunately, the laptop had an accident and needs a new LCD screen too.

First thought was to purchase the screen and keyboard and replace them myself, but I am concerned that I will encounter some gotchas. Second thought is to get another 510M laptop and move memory (if the old one has more) and hard drive to a new laptop.

Question 1: What other Dell Inspiron models are compatible for an organ transplant?

Question 2: Thoughts on how to get a 510M? (either in UK or USA)

Thanks much!

The harddrive you have in the 510M Is Industry standard ATA drive and will fit in many older notebooks HOWEVER because it was installed on a 510M hardware windows will give you a lock out if you install the drive in anything other than a 510M Rather than looking to replace just the screen and keyboard if you do manage to find another 510m for cheap then consider picking it up and transplant the drive.
