as above.. it seems that the scrren went blank after it got into GUI mode.... when in text mode verything is fine.....this is when i was installing FC5 on my 8104
may i ask why FC5? many of us on these forums cannot stand that distro, myself included when i had "fun" setting everything up. I dont wanna be an ass but i HIGHLY recommend you give Ubuntu a test run instead.

Sounds like your XOrg is set up for your external Monitor, or possibly your monitor port. If you arent sure what to do with this I would post up your xorg.conf, though to be honest I cant remember the last itme I set one up for a lappie to use an external monitor.

That's a weird issue. I'm guessing your laptop (via hardware) disables the laptop screen when an external monitor is plugged in? My p120 NEC laptop does this.
It's weird because the xorg config is pretty straight forward if you want to setup a secondary monitor. If you have an nvidia card then it's stupidly easy. Do post your xorg.conf as seablade suggested.
