Do you guys know if it is possible to send in the laptop w/o the harddrive for service? or do i always have to have the hdd there to send it in? REason I ask is I have a toshiba 50 gig 7200 rpm laptop hdd and I don't want to keep the 40 gig that I purchased with the laptop. Especially since you can ebay the 40 gig for around 100 bucks. What would you guys recommend if you were in my situation? 100 bucks does sound nice sine i have a much better hdd with me, or to keep it.

i asked the same in dell forums, remove hd from laptop.

dell even states that somewhere, but i couldnt find it.

i removed my hd today when some delivery guy picked up my system.

but i left a sticker on the machine, telling that hd had been removed. Dont want to upset the technician...

its better if you remove the hardrive in most cases they will tell you to remove it and then send it in to preserve your files :)

Usually the only way it could void the warranty, in my opinion, is if you put the new HDD in and it frags the mb, but that's between here and there... You don't have an electric personality do you...heh, j/k. If it was me, I would not sweat it.

yeah dont worry about it. Regarding new parts if you put something in and it doesnt kill the system after 24 hours of continuos use then its all gravy and integrated into YOUR warrenty
