before start up i get this, " SMART failure predicted on Hard Disk 2: ST9120821AS-(S1)". telling me to replace the hard drive, a failure maybe imminent.
its a duo core 1.6ghz,1.5g ddr2 ram,120 hard drive disk space.
ever since i got that msg, it started to slow down, even if im jus palying music it skips, but for some reason skips crazy when the volume is up to almost max.
This laptop is still new,not even 30 days yet, so i can still return it. But is there anything i can do to see if i can fix it? I tried hard drive tests on diagnostics, and full system scans, and i havent deleted any big files that may cause this. anyhelp is appreciated. thanks

SMART  is one of the best friends you will ever have in a PC, so listen when it speaks since it does not speak often or always in time to help.

Stop now, take it back, send it back or whatever just do it. In case you don't understand, YOUR DISK (hardware) IS BAD! so save anything you need or it will be gone before you know it.

heres what you do: back up EVERYTHING TO AN EXTERNAL HARD DISK OR DVD IF ITLL FIT. next, buy a new hard drive and install it, then re install your OS and your Drivers and migrate your files and data to the new drive. Or you can copy your entire disk to an external disk or dvd and then load it onto the new hard drive after you install it.

SMART is an acronym for a whole bunch of indicators your puter monitors to tell you if its feeling good. in particular to monitor if you HARD DRIVE is feeling good. if you get SMART errors, it means your disk is about to DIE not just having probs but is ABOUT TO DIE OR IS DYING. its a very serious deal. since you cant take the puter back and since you didnt mention warranty, im going to advise you to just skip dealing with all that and buy a new hard drive entirely.

i recommend tigerdirect or newegg as good places to buy. you can get great ones cheap and fast. but yeah, save your data and copy it off the drive now, cause you dont have much time left.
